Acer Aspire One power up problems? Try this.

Apparently my little Acer Aspire One machine got hung in some kind of weird power cycle today, perhaps a hibernation gone all wrong, the end result was my machine would boot up, start just fine and then reboot 10-20 seconds after reaching the Windows XP log-in screen.

After rebooting a half dozens times, I was getting pretty worried and beginning to sweat, thinking my machine was toast. So I searched Acer's website and tried the following sequence of actions;

  • unplug the battery and AC power
  • hold the power button down for 20 seconds
  • plug the battery back in

VoilĂ ! It worked!

Hope this helps save someone else from a heart attack.

Check that the CPU locking screw is securely turned to the lock position. Mine would reboot and get hung in that cycle occasionally. I noticed the lock was not turned to the stop. I tightened it, and so far it has run consistently.
